Introduction to Successful Remote Teamwork

Welcome to week 3!

We are very excited to welcoming you into a new module in our course. When we were discussing the idea of running such a course and did an initial search on the available resources and topics, we realized that despite its importance, ‘Intercultural Competence’ has not been explored widely in the context of remote teamwork.

Intercultural competence is a crucial skill-set in today’s global workplace, where employees are more likely to work remotely, interact with colleagues from other global branches, or connect with clients from different cultures and countries who have been shaped by different values, beliefs and experiences. When we learn how to understand the differences of those cultures and accept the ‘other’ regardless of what their beliefs are, we will be on the right way to develop our intercultural competence and to prevent so many misunderstanding situations that may emerge, but most importantly, to support delivering a successful project especially when working remotely with an international team.

Together, we will first explore culture and cultural sensitivity and then you’ll be introduced to a couple of models and frameworks that may support you in developing such a competence.
