Welcome to the third week of our online course "Mainframe - Crucial Role of Modern Enterprise Computing". This week's topics are an overview and an introduction to software development on the mainframe platform, in particular on z/OS. The most important programming languages for enterprise application develoment on z Systems are introduced, namely COBOL and Java. Web Services are presented as an important modern concept of software architecture and appplication modernization. Finally, an overview and introduction to the relevant database management systems (DBMS) on z/OS is given, introducing Db2 and IMS and their respective data models.
