Welcome to the fourth week of our online course "Mainframe - Crucial Role of Modern Enterprise Computing". This week's topics are Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) applications and an introduction to the respective enterprose middleware components, such as transaction processing monitors (TPM) like IBM CICS and Fujitsu's openUTM and message-oriented middleware. Transaction processing applications are among the most important, core mainframe workloads, for which mainframes are in particular optimized and well suited due to their high data throughput.
