Welcome

Dear participants,

A warm welcome to our first English-language MOOC about Mainframes and their crucial role in Enterprise Computing!

In the first week we give an overview of the Mainframe architecture and operating systems, their history, evolution and unique features. We will explain what mainframes are used for and why they are so important in Enterprise Computing and will remain to do so in the future.

The lecturers in this week are Prof. Dr. Andreas Polze from the HPI, Prof. Dr. Philipp Brune from the Neu-Ulm University of Applied Sciences (HNU) and Wolfram Greis from the European Mainframe Academy (EMA). All lecturers also are engaged in the Academic Mainframe Consortium, a non-profit organization supporting Mainframes in higher education.
