Auf Folie 16 heisst es, dass der <u>-Tag in HTML 5 veraltet sei. Dem ist nach der aktuellen Spezifikation der WHATWG nicht so:
The u element represents a span of text with an unarticulated, though explicitly rendered, non-textual annotation, such as labeling the text as being a proper name in Chinese text (a Chinese proper name mark), or labeling the text as being misspelt.
Der <u>-Tag hat also eine neue Bedeutung erhalten. Es geht um eine nicht näher ausgeführte, aber zumindest explizit dargestellte, Anmerkung zu einem Textstück, z. B. wenn (in einem Zitat) ein Wort absichtlich fehlerhaft geschrieben ist. Der <u>-Tag sollte hingegen auf keine Fall mehr zum unterstreichen von Textstücken genutzt werden. Dies ist die Aufgabe von CSS.
