This weeks lecture will deal with knowledge representations in description logics and OWL. 

• To get a deeper understanding of the foundations of Description Logics, we recommend you to read

  • A Description Logic Primer , Markus Krötzsch, František Simancík, Ian Horrocks [Paper]

• The syntax of the OWL language is subject of the following book chapters in the course reading materials

  • DE: Semantic Web Grundlagen : Kapitel 5 Ontologien in OWL

• A reference for OWL is also available on the web:

• To get some hands-on experience with creating ontologies in RDF(S) and OWL, we recommend you to try out the Protégé ontology editor :

  • Protégé : a free, open source ontology editor and knowledge-base framework.

  Part 9 of the lecture deals with rules and the Semantic Web. We are only scratching the surface of this topic in the lecture. If you are further interested in rules for the Semantic Web, you will find more information here:
