Process Analysis and Simulation in Signavio

Overview

In the previous weeks of this course, you learned about all the fundamentals to model and verify business processes. This knowledge enables you to start analyzing and simulating the behaviour of your model in different situations before you deploy your business process in a company.

This chapter introduces the Signavio Process Manager, which enables the modeling, analysis and simulation of business processes in a digital environment. Analyzing and simulating helps to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the created process and answers questions regarding its performance as illustrated in the following image.

Later on in this week, the modelling and verification of DMN models will be covered, which will be concluded by the simulation and testing of these.

The lecture comprises five video clips.

  1. Using Signavio QuickModel
    Signavio Quick Model is a fast table-based modelling alternative to capture the most important part of a process, where no special BPMN 2.0 knowledge is required.

  2. Process Analysis (Simulation and Reporting)
    The Signavio Process Manager simulates business processes automatically and provides reports regarding different performance metrics.

  3. Decision Modeling and Verification
    Decision Models can be integrated into the process simulation, by modelling them inside the Signavio Process Manager. These are automatically verified, e.g., regarding completeness.

  4. Decision Simulation and Testing
    To identify the correct behaviour of the modelled decisions, test inputs need to be created and verified according to their decision outcomes.

  5. Advanced Decision Modeling
    The Signavio Process Manager allows complex decision models, which integrate conditions regarding time and resources.

Organization

As usual, there is a number of self tests , to check your understanding of the lectures. You have as much time as required to solve these tests, you can take them at any time and arbitrarily often.

Please recall: At the end of the week, you need to submit a homework . For the homework you should calculate 30-45 minutes and the homework has a time limit (60 minutes) . Please be advised that this test can only be started ONCE (closing the browser does not stop the timer). In addition, the homework starts when you click on the start button on the homework page . So, only click on the button if you are willing to take the assignment. The achieved score in the homework contributes to your total score for this course. You will be informed about your results and a sample solution is published a day after submission deadline.
