- 00:01What is design thinking and why is it important?
- 00:04Suppose you want to help people
- 00:06to take better care of their health,
- 00:09or you wish to improve the experience of daily commute
- 00:11to work,
- 00:13or suppose you work at a bank
- 00:15that wants to help teenagers with their financial
- 00:17planning in an organic and convenient way.
- 00:21How do you go about solving these challenges?
- 00:24When we face a problem,
- 00:25our initial reaction is
- 00:26to start to think about possible solutions
- 00:29based on our own experiences and expertise.
- 00:32We might have a lightbulb moment
- 00:34and come up with a great idea:
- 00:36Once implemented it may succeed or fail
- 00:39in solving the problem that people have.
- 00:42When applying design thinking,
- 00:44instead of thinking about possible solutions
- 00:46right away,
- 00:47we taking human-centered approach
- 00:49and try to start by discovering people's hidden needs.
- 00:53In this way, we make sure
- 00:55that the solutions we create
- 00:56will be meaningful and helpful to people.
- 00:59Design thinking
- 01:00is a powerful tool for tackling the unknown.
- 01:04It starts with finding inspiration
- 01:05through careful observation and qualitative research.
- 01:09After interacting with people we wish to design
- 01:11for and learning about them,
- 01:13we then create solutions and possibilities for the needs
- 01:16we discovered.
- 01:17The next step is to create simple models of our idea
- 01:20and test them with the people that we designed for.
- 01:23Our aim is to hear their feedback,
- 01:25and refine our solution or create new ones if needed.
- 01:29Instead of solving problems with purely technological solutions,
- 01:33or focusing on what is economically viable,
- 01:36we begin by placing a strong emphasis
- 01:38on what is meaningful and desirable to people.
- 01:42You want to make sure that we create solutions
- 01:44that are valuable to people first,
- 01:46then we can apply the technology
- 01:48and business models that would support them.
