7. 00:18I'm working on a research project,
8. 00:20and I'm looking into,
9. 00:22how do people go about when they're looking for a job.
10. 00:26And I'm still trying to see,
11. 00:29where are the problems and the challenges
12. 00:31there for different people.
13. 00:33So I've prepared some questions,
14. 00:36but at any time if anything is unclear

44. 01:39you were looking for a job?
45. 01:42- OK. My last time I was looking for a job was
46. 01:49some weeks ago.
47. 01:51Actually, I'd like to change careers.
48. 01:57Basically, I just set a job alert. And then
49. 02:00I get every day
50. 02:02some proposals.
51. 02:04- OK. Can you walk me through the process?
52. 02:07So you sign up...
53. 02:08...what exactly happens when you go to job alert?
54. 02:12- I go to the website
55. 02:15and there I define some key words like where I do want to work,
56. 02:19and what kind of job, what title.
57. 02:21And every day based on this selection,
58. 02:25they are going through the internet,
59. 02:26looking for proposals and send me some proposals.
60. 02:31- And what do you do from there?
61. 02:33So you get the proposals...
62. 02:36- I look through it,
63. 02:37look what interests me,
64. 02:38and then interesting ones, I copy the URL to an excel sheet.
65. 02:44And then I look up the requirements,
66. 02:47write them out,
67. 02:48and have a look on my CV what
68. 02:51in my CV fits to this requirement.
69. 02:54And based on this I'm
70. 02:56writing a motivation letter.
71. 03:00- OK, interesting.
72. 03:01So you are matching
73. 03:02what you find in the requirements to what you already
74. 03:06did in the past. - Yeah.
75. 03:08- But where exactly do you choose
76. 03:12then where to apply for? - Well, basically
77. 03:16I look up if I like the language they use,
78. 03:20if the company fits to me,
79. 03:22you know, there is a kind of,
80. 03:23old German corporate language
81. 03:24they use which is just
82. 03:28not that interesting.
83. 03:30But I think the most interesting ones,
84. 03:33I found on design consultancies,
85. 03:36because they really know how to write a proposal.
86. 03:40- OK. What is important
87. 03:41when it comes to your job or to
88. 03:43the job that you're applying for?
89. 03:45What are the criteria, besides the language
90. 03:48that you already mentioned,
91. 03:49like what is important for you to want to work in this job?
92. 03:54- Well, for me very important is that I can bring in my
93. 03:59whole personality and my ideas,
94. 04:01and can work them out.
95. 04:05That's also what makes job searching so difficult for me,
96. 04:09because to really find something what suits my criteria
97. 04:13is very difficult, because there...
98. 04:15there are a lot. Like I want to do this and that and that.
99. 04:18And it has gone so far that
100. 04:21in the end I stopped to look for jobs and start to freelance,
101. 04:25and just write proposals to companies
102. 04:28I think they're interesting.
103. 04:31And they got some ideas,
104. 04:32what can be done in their work.
105. 04:35- Alright, so if I listen to you,
106. 04:37is it that you kind of turned around the way
107. 04:40you were looking for jobs?
108. 04:41Beforehand you were always
109. 04:43looking for something that people proposed.
110. 04:47And now you just turned the whole process,
111. 04:49and you're proposing.
112. 04:51- Yeah, actually yes.
113. 04:52- OK, wow, that's interesting!
114. 04:55What is your best experience?

116. 05:02how this is helping you in a way to find new jobs? - What?
117. 05:07- the writing your proposal.
118. 05:10- Well...
119. 05:12...normally when I just answer to proposals,
120. 05:15I'm limited to what they offer.
121. 05:17And when I propose something to other companies,
122. 05:20my ideas, I'm not limited. I can do whatever I want
123. 05:25and see what comes back.
124. 05:27- OK.
125. 05:28So, why do you do that?
126. 05:31Why do you do that on the long run?
127. 05:34- Well basically, I think it's...
128. 05:38it can be hell to work somewhere,
129. 05:40where I don't belong to or where I
130. 05:41don't feel comfortable.
131. 05:43And so as I don't like to be in hell...
132. 05:47I sweat very fast when it's hot. [laughter]
133. 05:51Yeah, I prefer to write my proposals,
134. 05:53what idea I have so far,
135. 05:55with this company and write, how do you say
136. 06:00an offer? - Yeah, an offer...you mean when you propose?
137. 06:03- I would propose them a project and see.
138. 06:05if they work out or not.
139. 06:09- Alright, there are already interesting findings in there,

142. 06:20I'm really happy with what I heard.
