Abstract:
Digital education is a key policy priority for the European Commission.
The first comprehensive EU framework for digital education was launched in 2018 through the Digital Education Action Plan, which set out 11 actions for the 2018-2020 period, aiming to help Member States meet the challenges and opportunities stemming from the use of digital technologies in education and training.
In the meantime, the COVID-19 crisis accelerated developments in digital education that may have taken years to realize. It sparked vivid discussions among a wide range of stakeholders but also revealed many challenges in terms of quality and equity.
Georgi’s speech will look at the past, present and future of digital education in Europe by considering achievements to date and still existing challenges, connected either to the COVID-19 crisis or the longer-term digital transformation.
He will present the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027 and its long term vision to support the recovery and the overall digital transformation of education and training institutions. Besides describing the current political context, space will be given to dig into key areas of intervention with a special focus on how to support the design and sharing of high-quality digital education content.
