This is a bridging module directed at students of the Master’s Programme Digital Health with an IT or other non-healthcare background. The course provides knowledge of principal elements of healthcare and public health systems as well as global health initiatives, including their stakeholders, institutions, regulations, and functional interplay. It will equip students with a solid working knowledge of fundamentals and emerging trends in healthcare, public health, and global health. In the first block “Healthcare Systems and Industries”, students will focus on the composition of healthcare systems and the interplay between stakeholders, complemented by an in-depth view of various healthcare industries and digital health trends and applications. In the second block “Public and Global Health, Digital Health Trends”, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of global health including the ethical principles that govern global public health practice, and focus on the essence of disease prevention, global health crises, and regulatory aspects of digitalisation in healthcare. In this course students will learn to comprehend, assess and apply information about stakeholders and their interplay in healthcare systems, public health, global health, and specialized health domains - in context of the emerging digital health landscape.

Dr. Jasper zu Putlitz is Operating Partner at Triton Partners, a European private equity firm, and lecturer at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) Digital Health Center. He has over 30 years of healthcare experience. He was Managing Director at Accenture Strategy where he led the healthcare and public services business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; CEO of Bosch Healthcare Systems, a telehealth company headquartered in California; and partner of McKinsey & Company. He has a clinical and science background with roles as Research Fellow in Medicine at Harvard University’s Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center as well as resident and fellow in internal medicine / gastroenterology at various European university hospitals. Jasper holds a M.D. degree from the University of Munich. Together with Erwin Böttinger, he published the book "Die Zukunft der Medizin" (The future of medicine).
