Learning Material
This week we learn about the query language SPARQL and RDF triple stores. You can find additional reading material here:
- Eric Prud'hommeaux et al. (eds.): SPARQL Query Language for RDF
- Steve Harris et al. (eds.): SPARQL 1.1 Query Language
- A List of Public SPARQL Endpoints: SPARQL Endpoints Status
- Lars Marius Garshol: Blog entry about RDF triple stores — an overview
- Apache Jena Fuseki — a simple Java triple store and SPARQL server: Fuseki: serving RDF data over HTTP
You might want to try a SPARQL endpoint for DBpedia during this course. Here is a list of public DBpedia SPARQL endpoints (Be aware: The individual DBpedia and DBpedia-Live endpoints may produce different results, since they all base on different amount of datasets, i.e. some know more than others, and DBpedia-Live ought to be almost up to date with the current state of Wikipedia, while the latest version DBpedia 3.8 is of June 2012):
- http://dbpedia.org/sparql - basic instance
- http://lod.openlinksw.com/sparql - this instance has the most computing resources behind it and the least restrictive "fair use" rules
- http://dbpedia-live.openlinksw.com/sparql - a DBpedia-Live instance
- http://live.dbpedia.org/sparql - a DBpedia-Live instance hosted by University of Leipzig
