Sustainable Programming @ SAP For software developers, being sustainable and contributing to clean IT means designing software programs that make efficient use of computing resources and save energy. For SAP developers and architects, this becomes even more imperative if we take the huge number of business transactions worldwide into consideration, that are handled by an SAP system in one way or another. From a back-of-the-envelope calculation, you will see that in this context, already small sustainable programming measures can save the energy consumption of a small city. In this overview session, we will show why we consider sustainable programming important at SAP, and which optimization strategies and programming recommendations we use. Key questions are how to provide computing and storage power with minimum environmental impact, and how to find the right balance between end-to-end response time, throughput, and economical/sustainable resource consumption.
