In this lecture we will give a brief overview about advances in hardware and current latency numbers. This will allow us to get a deeper understanding why former assumptions no longer hold and basic concepts in nowadays databases have to be rethought.
Side note: Prof. Plattner is referring to locks (a means to organize parallelization), not to logs (used to document write accesses) in the end of the video.
